Hospitality Leadership Part 1

Leadership is vital to your success as a manager in any industry. Studies show that
managers who fail usually do so because of faulty leadership skills. They are
arrogant, cold, betray the trust others put in them, or lack the ability to build an
effective team.
This section of the handbook will help you think about leadership traits that are
important to you and discuss what makes a good hospitality leader.
What kind of leaders do you admire?
Hospitality leaders share several traits.
Hospitality managers don’t always agree on which leadership trait is most
important in the hospitality industry. But most do agree that the following seven
traits are vital to your success as a manager and leader:
1. Hospitality leaders have a high standard of ethics.
2. Hospitality leaders are responsible.
3. Hospitality leaders can deal with crises effectively.
4. Hospitality leaders handle conflict effectively.
5. Hospitality leaders have vision and know how to make that vision a reality.
6. Hospitality leaders know how to motivate others.
7. Hospitality leaders have a good attitude.
